A Sneak Peek...

I hoped to have my studio finished by Friday, so I could post lots of lovely photos for you guys... But, I forgot how many steps there were in our house.  I've been carrying things up and down from the garage and the basement since the Thursday before Halloween!  The Friday before Halloween I had a completely empty room.  A blank slate.  A clean page.

I'm getting close, but wanted some advice as I finish up...
(I hope you like the sneak peek at the entry and one corner of my nearly completed studio.)
What MUST I have in my studio?

  3. There really is nothing like a room of one's own. I've found that I MUST have a heavy-duty three-hole punch. I'm a notebook freak.

  10. What fun. I absolutely can't live without my big dry erase board that tells me what stories are out, my upcoming deadlines, and my goals. It keeps me honest.

  14. How lovely to have your own space!

I write in a 'tiny' loft - and I mean tiny. I can only stand up in it on one side owing to a steeply pitched roof. But, I simply love it!

Can't wait to see the pics :)

PS. I may even post some photos of it someday - after I've given it a jolly good tidy!

  15. Sweet! It is looking great! Thanks for the peek.
I'd want a coffee pot or thermos to hold hot water so I wouldn't have to go out and refill my cup. Maybe even a small basket with little tea assortments to choose from. =) This is a dream if I ever get to have my own little space...

  18. Awesome--how fantastic to have a space of your own! I can't wait to see the finished product. As for what you need in there...it kinda depends on how you like to work:

    music
    pictures/paintings/prints you get lost in
snackage -- a big bowl of smarties perhaps?
    equipment (the computer/printer/whatever else)
a really comfy chair/loveseat. For curling up in to read over your drafts.
shelves (see that in the background already)

I'm sure you've got these things under control already!

  20. Hi Sharon .. it looks so neat and tidy - organised & ready to go .. but perhaps not quite yet .. as we can't see around the corner!

Have fun with the organising & decisions as to what's required etc .. comfort, silence, music when wanted, organised .. and with a magic genie ready to pump out magical work!

Have fun .. and looking forward to the finished Mayhew studio place .. cheers Hilary

  21. Thanks for the sneek peek into your own special workspace. You've already gotten some wonderful suggestions from other bloggers. I'm not sure what I'd add to the list. I look forward to seeing more pictures when the room is finished.

  23. This is incredibly exciting! I'm so excited for you. Hmm. I think you should have things that smell nice. I have a candle that I don't actually light but put up to my nose and smell a lot when I'm thinking over my words. lol. I'd love to have a plant at my desk but I don't get a lot of sun in that room.

  26. Hi Sharon,
I'm very impressed with the sneak peek of your studio. You should be rightly pleased. Intrigued to see what the rest of studio looks like, once completed.
    Have a lovely week.

  31. A mini refrigerator full of drinks and a door that locks.

  32. Looks nice, Sharon! I can't wait to see more photos. I think you need the five fave non-fiction writing books from my contest. :)

  33. So cute!

You MUST have a refrigerator filled with cold Dr. Peppers. Or, let me rephrase that ... I would include a refrigerator filled with cold Dr. Peppers.

And a pantry for chocolate and other candy.

Nah, maybe all that would be too distracting. You'd accomplish EATING in your studio and nothing else. :)

  38. How exciting, Sharon!! If it were my studio, I'd love to have a huge French window overlooking a garden...

  39. Looks nice, Sharon.
I like a little throw somewhere and perhaps a plant too...

  40. I've found that I absolutely MUST have:
Pen, paper, pencils, craft supplies, printer, books, camera, places for storage, TV, stereo, thermos of ice, file cabinet, footrest, pictures for inspiration, good lighting, view through a window and, oh yeah... my computer. Naturally, there's lots more that I need close at hand to keep me writing, but you pro'lly have your own treasures to love.

Awesome pics! Can't wait to see more.
