I hoped to have my studio finished by Friday, so I could post lots of lovely photos for you guys... But, I forgot how many steps there were in our house. I've been carrying things up and down from the garage and the basement since the Thursday before Halloween! The Friday before Halloween I had a completely empty room. A blank slate. A clean page.
I'm getting close, but wanted some advice as I finish up...
(I hope you like the sneak peek at the entry and one corner of my nearly completed studio.)
What MUST I have in my studio?
Wow, I like it! I like to have a little plant in my office, it always makes me feel good =)
ReplyDeleteOoh, it looks awesome so far. Can't wait to see the photos of the finished studio!
ReplyDeleteThere really is nothing like a room of one's own. I've found that I MUST have a heavy-duty three-hole punch. I'm a notebook freak.
ReplyDeleteIt is looking good, can't wait to see the rest.
ReplyDeleteI lone for a room of my own...I fix areas and every one gravitates there.
I must proof read...long not lone.
ReplyDeleteIf it were mine, I'd need pens and post-it notes. I'm excited to see your pictures.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the final pics!! Very exciting :)

It looks like a great studio so far! I can't wait to see what the finished product looks like. :D
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the photos! For me, I need to have some Pooh bear and Mickey stuff around - otherwise it's just not quite right :)
ReplyDeleteWhat fun. I absolutely can't live without my big dry erase board that tells me what stories are out, my upcoming deadlines, and my goals. It keeps me honest.
ReplyDeleteOoooh!!! What must you have?!?! Erm... a chocolate fountain!!! Of course!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the finished studio - well done you for all that hard work!! Wow!!! Take care - seriously!! Mind your back and all that!! x
A white board! A HUGE one. (I can't live without my whiteboard.)
ReplyDeleteoh, and some chocolate.
Thanks for the sneak into you studio, I think you need a big bowl of catnip in case some friend pop in to visit!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to have your own space!
ReplyDeleteI write in a 'tiny' loft - and I mean tiny. I can only stand up in it on one side owing to a steeply pitched roof. But, I simply love it!
Can't wait to see the pics :)
PS. I may even post some photos of it someday - after I've given it a jolly good tidy!
Sweet! It is looking great! Thanks for the peek.
ReplyDeleteI'd want a coffee pot or thermos to hold hot water so I wouldn't have to go out and refill my cup. Maybe even a small basket with little tea assortments to choose from. =) This is a dream if I ever get to have my own little space...
Lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to peek in full!!
I can't live without manila file folders:) Looking great so far. Looks like a "fun" room. And fun is good! Fill it with everything you love.
ReplyDeleteAwesome--how fantastic to have a space of your own! I can't wait to see the finished product. As for what you need in there...it kinda depends on how you like to work:
ReplyDeletemusic
pictures/paintings/prints you get lost in
snackage -- a big bowl of smarties perhaps?
equipment (the computer/printer/whatever else)
a really comfy chair/loveseat. For curling up in to read over your drafts.
shelves (see that in the background already)
I'm sure you've got these things under control already!
Can't wait to see it! What to have in your studio?
ReplyDeleteDesk
Comfy chair
Bookshelves
Writing equipment (pens, paper, computer etc)
Memo board
Heater for when it gets cold
Have fun!
Healthy and unhealthy snacks
Hi Sharon .. it looks so neat and tidy - organised & ready to go .. but perhaps not quite yet .. as we can't see around the corner!
ReplyDeleteHave fun with the organising & decisions as to what's required etc .. comfort, silence, music when wanted, organised .. and with a magic genie ready to pump out magical work!
Have fun .. and looking forward to the finished Mayhew studio place .. cheers Hilary
Thanks for the sneek peek into your own special workspace. You've already gotten some wonderful suggestions from other bloggers. I'm not sure what I'd add to the list. I look forward to seeing more pictures when the room is finished.
ReplyDeleteI come to invite you for going to my blog and have participated in my 1st miaumiau luck .. would love ...

This is incredibly exciting! I'm so excited for you. Hmm. I think you should have things that smell nice. I have a candle that I don't actually light but put up to my nose and smell a lot when I'm thinking over my words. lol. I'd love to have a plant at my desk but I don't get a lot of sun in that room.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the new studio!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the rest of your studio. I think we all put in our work spaces what we need. I've got a treadmill desk in mine.
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon,
ReplyDeleteI'm very impressed with the sneak peek of your studio. You should be rightly pleased. Intrigued to see what the rest of studio looks like, once completed.
Have a lovely week.
In kindness, Gary:-)
How exciting to have a new space. :) And I bet your legs are in good shape after all those stairs, lol!
ReplyDeleteAngela @ The Bookshelf Muse
Ohhh!! How exciting! I love the Virginia Woolf hanging. Can't wait to see the rest :)
ReplyDeleteIt's looking great! You need a little basket full of chocolate!
ReplyDeletehi miss sharon! wow! its sooooo exciting that you got your own space thats just only yours. i love that big animal picture. its got lots of bright colors that could make your room happy. for me whats missing is a nice cozy mat for macy cause you know she gonna be in there with you lots and that means you gotta have a little bowl of doggie treats on your desk! :) i cant wait to see lots of pictures when its all done. i could like a picture of you sitting at your new desk. hooray for your own writing place!
ReplyDelete...hugs from lenny
A mini refrigerator full of drinks and a door that locks.
ReplyDeleteLooks nice, Sharon! I can't wait to see more photos. I think you need the five fave non-fiction writing books from my contest. :)
ReplyDeleteSo cute!
ReplyDeleteYou MUST have a refrigerator filled with cold Dr. Peppers. Or, let me rephrase that ... I would include a refrigerator filled with cold Dr. Peppers.
And a pantry for chocolate and other candy.
Nah, maybe all that would be too distracting. You'd accomplish EATING in your studio and nothing else. :)
Amy
Lookin' good there, Sharon. Must haves? Hmmm, TONS of highlighters and a bunches of LABELED file cabinets.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the final pics. You lugging all that stuff has made me tired. :)
I think you already have everything! A printer, writing materials, reference books, and of course, inspiration!
ReplyDeleteHooray! Thanks for the sneak peak. Can't wait for the rest! :o)
ReplyDelete*peek :o)
ReplyDeleteHehehe, a wee fridge so you can have a glass of chilled white wine when the mood takes :-)
ReplyDeleteC x
How exciting, Sharon!! If it were my studio, I'd love to have a huge French window overlooking a garden...
ReplyDeleteLooks nice, Sharon.
ReplyDeleteI like a little throw somewhere and perhaps a plant too...
More pics when you are done please :)
I've found that I absolutely MUST have:
ReplyDeletePen, paper, pencils, craft supplies, printer, books, camera, places for storage, TV, stereo, thermos of ice, file cabinet, footrest, pictures for inspiration, good lighting, view through a window and, oh yeah... my computer. Naturally, there's lots more that I need close at hand to keep me writing, but you pro'lly have your own treasures to love.
Awesome pics! Can't wait to see more.
