This is my neighbor, Rick. I can't wait to tell you about what he's doing this summer.
He is going to hike the Appalachian Trail by himself...barefoot! He is marking his 50th birthday by taking this monumental trip.
He has a great website, where you can follow his journey. He has a (solar powered charger) ipad and iphone with him, so he can blog and tweet along the way. His website even has a little map that shows where he is. He also reviews some of the equipment he is carrying in his 35 pound pack.
I don't know about you, but I'm not brave enough to attempt such a journey on my own. I'm super excited to read about Rick's adventure. It kind of reminds me of one of my favorite adventure books...Hatchet.
Please check out Rick's site and follow his adventure with me..........You can even find him on Twitter!

ReplyDeleteI recently finished a book titled NATURE GIRL by Jane Kelley.
Here is the back blurb: Can a New York City girl and her little dog survive ALONE on the Appalachian Trail?
It was a good book!
Wow wow wow--that is extremely cool, and I hope the trip goes well! That's quite an adventure.
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats to Theresa!
Cool stuff. I can't imagine hiking the AT barefoot! But I can imagine hiking it- which I did in 1999. Seems like a lifetime ago now. I read Nature Girl too- cute book:)

Such a fabulous adventure! I have the AT also on my list. One day. Kids are too young for me to leave them for 6 months, and my daughter hates hiking, so I don't think she'd come along. There's a great book by two sisters who hiked the AT barefoot too. Happy birthday and lots of fun to your friend.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Theresa.
ReplyDeleteI read Rick's website on why he's going barefoot. Now it makes sense.
I hope you're having a great weekend.
Wow. Great. His blog look like interesting.
ReplyDeleteBarefoot? WOW! I could never do that. I probably couldn't do the Applachian Trail either but I don't even go barefoot in my house. WOW! What courage!
ReplyDeletebarefoot? I can't even walk across my lawn barefoot!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Theresa!!!!

Here's to that adventure on the Appalachian Trail. There's a book in that!

ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! I might dream of doing something like this (although not barefoot - I never even go barefoot in my house on the carpet!), but I'd never be brave enough to do it.
ReplyDeleteHave you read Cheryl Strayed's memoir Wild? A little like this. :)
I wish Rick a very happy birthday. I also wish him a safe and healthy adventure.
ReplyDeleteHow far have you an Lenny come with the book? Can't wait to see it.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Theresa!
Hi Sharon,
ReplyDeleteApologies for not being around much lately.
What a fascinating and probably rather gruelling endeavour by your neighbour, Rick. All the best to him and yes, I would be more than happy to attempt such a journey on my own. Although, I'd being wearing hiking boots! :)
I shall duly check out those links.
Have a lovely weekend, Sharon.
In kindness, Gary
Congratulations to Theresa! It's impressive enough to hike the Appalachian Trial, but to do so barefoot? Hope he has tough feet!
ReplyDeleteHow cool is he? Some people are amazing. Some day, I'm going to be just like that. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a long way to walk with no shoes on!
ReplyDeleteMay he find no broken bottles!
I have a friend who once hiked the Appalachian Trail, but he wore hiking boots. Barefoot is...interesting?
