Do you have plans for that day? (Two Tips For Today)

Do you love getting bookmarks or postcards from your favorite authors?

I do!

I've been thinking about what will happen  if when I get published.  I can hardly wait until I can create a postcard and a bookmark that goes with one of my stories books. So you're probably thinking, sure I'm going to do that too.  But what are you doing to get ready for that day?

I bought a special address book to put all my writing contacts in... So if you've ever won a prize on my blog or I've won something on your blog, or I've met you at a conference you will get a postcard or a bookmark to help me celebrate my book.

Do you keep track of your contacts, so you can share your good news when it comes?

My new method for keeping track of my writing time, is really paying off.  I highly recommend you try it.  Instead of writing down goals, I keep track of everything "writing" I do each day.  I think it is making a huge difference on how I feel about my progress.  I am writing more!  (My house is a mess, but hey that can wait.)  It's different than crossing things off.  I do that on my daytimer.  I list my chores, errands, meetings, etc.. and I usually just put down the word "writing" after I have the other stuff written down.  So I still get to check it off (cause checking things off feels good).  But when I sit down at my desk and look at what I've done so far for that week  I am feeling really pleased with myself.

So tell me...

What will you do when you get a book deal?

Happy Writing Everyone!

  1. I like your approach. Keeping track of your writing reminds you that you're a writer in motion. Motion begets momentum, and momentum, success.

    Keep at it, Sharon!

  6. That's a great idea! I'm a huge goal person, as most know by now. But including everything as a goal, even if it's unrelated to a story I'm working on, does sound productive. I think I might try this and write down the times I'm brainstorming, too. With four kids, I'm in the car so often I brainstorm a ton.

When I get my book deal? Yeah, first I'll cry. Probably a lot. Then I'll plan to have a huge cyber party and invite all my friends!! I like to have fun!

  9. I think planning is a good step, whatever stage you are at. And seeing all those names is a good way to remind yourself of your own support network.

I really like the idea of writing down general writing activities, instead of ones focuses on work counts etc. Quality can be more important than quantity, which word counts don't always get at.

    Happy writing!

  11. That's a great idea to have an address book for that! I'm going to have to follow your example. I'm so disorganized, it's insane.

I love your positive attitude, too, Sharon. I need to be more positive and start saying "when" instead of "if." *sigh*

  12. I haven't started an address book like that, but what a great idea!

And I am in a writing challenge with a friend this month. So far it's been wonderful! We have each other to keep us in check. :)

P.S. I LOVE lists. Crossing off is the best.

  13. When my book deal comes through I'm having a hot tub installed on our back deck. Why? Because all of my great writing idea's come while I'm sitting in the hot tub at the spa! :)

  21. To answer your question:
When I get published, I will first scream, then go out with my hubby and friends to celebrate (I'll buy a bottle or two of the best red wine, or even better, Dom Perignon) :D
Once I get out of my stupor, I'll post my news on my blog, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter ;)
And, I've always known this, I will definitely thank my mentors. They deserve all the credit ;)

  22. You've been most inspirational! Not just with your writing, but with your "total life approach" to it...if we do not feel well (be that physical or mental) creative production can come to a screeching halt. I think you need to get a book mark (or two) :) designed and displayed in a prominant spot, until the time comes...in the near future...to order them to be printed up to send to all of your literary friends!

  29. What a SUPER idea. I really have to do that. I win books and do critiques for people, and then I forget what is what and who is who. Good for you, being so organized!!!

  30. Hey! Me again. I decided there was no time like the present. I liked your idea so much I started a document (didn't have a book to write in) of people I've awarded things to and people who've given me things. Thanks for the great idea and the motivation to do this!
