So Much To Say...So Little Time...

Thanks for dropping in and weighing in on pitches over the weekend.

(On my way to SCBWI-KS I had to stop and get a photo of this...I wonder how many writers live in Story City, IA?)

(My first ever photo of me by me...LOL..I have a lot of wrinkles up close...)

The Greatest Job On Earth was a fantastic conference!  If you get a chance to go to an event in Kansas, GO!  Those ladies know how to put together a great event...I'll be sharing over the next few weeks some of what I learned, plus how my editor one on one  (smile) and my agent critique group went.  (smile)

A couple quick notes...One of our favorite blog buddies is not feeling well and if you haven't had a chance to stop by his blog and say "hi," it might help pick up his spirits.

The Awesome Angela Ackerman is celebrating...she has over 1,000 followers.  She has some nice prizes, but she has one AMAZING  prize...A MENTORSHIP!  Your going to want to go and fill out her form...for sure!  If you are not familiar with her blog, you need to be.  She puts up great posts on writing.  You will learn from her...guaranteed!

I'll be back tomorrow with my first installment on SCBWI-KS...I'm telling you guys...It was great!!!

Have you been to a conference or retreat yet this year?  If not, do you have one planned?

  1. I don't think you look wrinkled. In fact, considering that we can rarely take good pictures of ourselves with a camera at arm's length, this is a pretty good one.

I attended NESCBWI in May and one day at BlogHer in August. I wish I could afford more conferences. They get me energized to write and I like meeting other writers.

I hope Lenny feels better soon.

  2. I haven't had the chance to do a conference yet. Maybe in a year or 2 :) Can't wait to hear what caused those smiles!

  4. Aw! Your picture's awesome!

I've been to one retreat. It was fun. Unfortunately, we didn't get as much writing done as we liked. There was more talking and eating. But it was fun. =)

  5. Wrinkles?! Actually, the first thing I thought when I looked at that pic was how flawless your skin looked! Great photo!
Very excited to hear about your experience at the conference. Seems like there are lots of smiles so I'm sensing it was wonderful.
I have not been to a writing conference or retreat but I would like to attend one someday.

  7. I thought you looked fab in the photo :) And people always see character before wrinkles (so if you notice someones wrinkles they are boring!) and that mentorship sounds amazing, I've entered and crossing my fingers and toes *grin*

  12. Love the photo of the town sign and you look awesome. Town names can be so, well, different. In southcentral Pennsylvania, for example, we have the town of Intercourse and the town of Blue Ball. On one of the cruises we took the kids on, there was a Hell. We could come up with a whole list of funny/different town names, couldn't we? Anyway, sorry for going off on a tangent. Glad you had a good conference. Can't wait to hear more about it. Have a terrific Tuesday.

  14. Love seeing your photo, Sharon!

Looking forward to hearing about the conference. I'll have to live vicariously this year, since I'm not planning any until next spring.

  15. Theresa--I wish my arms were about two feet longer, then maybe the picture would have been better. :)

    What is Blogher?

Jemi and Sandy --I really think that going to conferences is huge! It gives you the chance to submit directly to editors and agents and if you do a good job at networking, they will have a face to put with your name. :)

Carolyn V-It's so much fun spending time with people of like minds...You walk away feeling inspired. :)

Melissa--You are too kind...(Did you forget to put in your contacts?) I'd like to go on a guided retreat...one that allowed you time to write as well as time to learn. :) Highlights has some of those in Honesdale, PA. Maybe I'll get to do one of those next year...

Anne--There are lots of online resources (free) that you can learn from...check out the links on my sidebar...

Nicole--Good luck with Angela's mentorship contest...It would be something wonderful for anyone to win....

Hawk--You are too kind....I hope you have a great time at your conference...I'm sure it will be great! Make sure you put effort into meeting the editors and agents that are there...

Hilary MB--Thanks for taking the time to pop over and say hi to Lenny. :) He has a special spot in my heart....Last night I was facebook chatting with a couple of my former kiddos (now in college) and realized that Lenny is one of my kiddos now... :) I'm so glad so many of you have taken him into your hearts as well....

Jennifer--Thanks for stopping in @ Lenny's place too. :) I thought Story City was great! Next time I'll cruise through town...maybe go to the library.

Catherine--LOL, it's those life lines on my neck that are driving me nuts!!!! No cream seems to help. :(

Buffy--I had no idea PA had so many erotic towns! (I'm over here blushing!!!!)

    Brian--It was almost purrfect!

Terry--Thanks, I took about 10 trying to get a good one...some of them were down right scary! I've never taken one of myself before!

I think after you get an agent and a book deal you get to wait and go to conferences as a speaker and sign books, right?

    Thanks for dropping in everyone!

    Happy writing!!!!

  20. Greetings Sharon,
'Story City' eh? That sounds very interesting. I vaguely remember a place called 'The Naked City'. :-)
A very nice photograph of you by you. I have to take my own photograph because nobody in their right mind will take my photo.
    Have a brilliant week.
    With respect and kindness, Gary.

  21. Amy--That reminds me...do I need to send you some money??? (wink)

Jill--Isn't that a sweet name! I'll have to drive there and check it out some time...

Shannon--If you like teacher conventions, you'll like writing ones...I used to go to the IRA conventions...they were awesome! You get that same excitement with writing conventions...

Susan--I hope you have a good time!

Gary--Yikes! I wouldn't stop and take a photo there...I would worry about what I might see....not quite the right photo for my blog....

    Thanks for dropping by everyone
    Happy writing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. The only conference I've been to is Beyond Rubies. It's not a writing thing, it's a woman's thing. Everything from cooking to belly dancing to the power of positive thinking. Next year's link isn't up yet, but you can get a sample of this year's selection here: http://www.kirkwood.edu/rubies

  26. Aw, so great to see you! And how cool to go to Story City, IA?? Didn't even know it existed!

I've been to several conferences this year. If you can get to them, they are usually well worth the effort, I think.
