The ABC's of A Good Friend... "V"

(Do you value the little things in life?)

Today is day 22 of Arlee Bird's A-Z Challenge! Since I write for younger children and we're doing the ABC's, I thought I'd do The ABC's of A Good Friend (and throw in a few random pictures, because I have a bit of a camera habit).
~V~
When we think of the word value we think of money...are we getting our money's worth?  It's the same with our friends.  Do we value them?  Do they value us?  You can tell by the way they treat you if you are a valued friend.  You can also tell by the way you treat them if you value them.  Do you cancel on them?  Do you only call when you need something?  Do you feel like you "have to" see them?  If you answered yes, then those people are not valued friends...If you want to be a valued friend, think about your relationship with that person.  How can you make it stronger?  What's it lacking?  There are different kinds of friends...some aren't meant to last forever.  If this person is one whom you would like to have a  friendship with for a long time, then you have to put the work in and show them that you can be that valued friend they are looking for.

What is the longest friendship you have had?  or still have?

  2. Hmmm...good question. I still have a friend I met in kindergarten. We haven't been in touch in years, but I still consider her a friend.

  3. Rolling stones gathering no moss, etc. but I have three friends who have stayed with me for many years, thank goodness. I'm in England, one is in Scotland, one is in Germany, and the other is in Atlanta, Georgia. Thank goodness for the internet. :0)

  5. Friendships certainly go through seasons, and some never see another spring.

You've put in print something I've been feeling, but not thinking. I've a better handle on it now. Thank you. That's quite a big help!

That said, I've found some valued friends just this month, and rekindled friendships of old. Much value in that...

    Best,
    Joe

  6. Great post. I had a friendship with someone that began in elementary school, which lasted about 26 years. Sorry to say we eventually lost touch with each other.

  8. My longest friendship is the one I made when i was 4yrs old. I am now 40. It has changed over time. Unfortunatly, she backed off the friendship when I got married. She did not approve. She would not be my bride's maid or even attend the ceremony. It's sad. She had always been my best friend, but now its a casual friendship only talking every 6 months or so. Right now, the only "close" friend I have is my husband.

  9. My wife, and kids, are definitely my closest friends… their my reason for living.
A close second is my best friend I’ve known since I was 5… we stay in touch.

  10. That is a good V word. Since I'm typically quite, I want my pals to be vocal, yep, really, they need to be vocal in their support!

  11. What a wonderful series this is, Sharon! I can also tell how much fun you're having writing each episode of this.

As for the longest friendship I've had, I have been friends with my oldest friend for the past thirty years -- since we were both in early elementary school. We both live in different countries now and don't get to see/talk to each other for long periods of time (sometimes years). Yet when we meet, we just go off as if we'd never been apart.

  12. I've got a couple of friends from elementary and jr high that I'm still in touch with, but my best friend would be my husband of 19 years. :)

  13. True words! You do have to put in the work... but the reward is so worth the effort. Thanks for your thoughts!

    Hugs!
