What Do You Dream?

Do you dream in Fantasy? YA? Mystery? Romance? Suspense?  Or Action Adventure?

Are your dreams animated? Do you dream in watercolor? Pastel? Oil paint? Or are your dreams digital?

Do you have reoccurring dreams?  I do…scary ones…

Do you think dreams tell your secret desires? Have your dreams predicted something?

  1. I keep having this horrible dream where I'm watching a plan crash on the ground. Creepy. Apparently it's pretty common. Something about feeling like you're not in control?

Oh, I wish I dreamed in YA romance every night. Wouldn't that be nice?

  2. Lisa & Laura--I think you are right. I have a dream where wolves are chasing me and have me cornered. I wake up in a paniced state.

YA romance all night every night...Now that would make me go to bed early. :) I'm on Team Jacob...What about you?

  3. I had a black and white dream once, about a tornado in the back yard. I wonder what I had been watching??

Just this past week, I've had a dream where I was shopping for a PO BOX, and the post office lady was showing me the sizes... one was a ROOM! Decorated..furniture..a ficus tree. Another dream I had, I think I was Hermione following around Harry Potter (who actually looked like Edward) and we were casting spells protecting a house or something....FREAKY!

Good post! I love thinking about dreams!

  4. Kristin--My wolf dream is in black and white...It pops up when I'm feeling like I don't have a choice about a major issue in my life.

Last night I had a dream about moving back to Saint Louis. When we lived there we were about three blocks from one of my writing buddies house. In my dream, I had to shout out the bedroom window for my daughter and her two best friends to stop playing in the wooded area between our houses...What's realy weird is she had a dream about us moving back to STL last night too. She had a lovely (her words) pet corn snake that she moved from Iowa with us. She got one of my friends a corn snake (because her's was so nice), but she gave it to her at our favorite restaurant and it shed its skin and turned into an ugly mean creature like in the movie GREMLINS.....Strange, really strange...

    Are you Team Edward????

  5. oooh-- your on one of my favorite topics. I've been posting about dreams for the past several Fridays. My dreams always seem very real, sensible, and logical that is until I wake up, then I realize how strange they were. I believe dreams just reinterpret things we thing or reveal desires, secret and not so secret. I don't think I ever really have recurring dreams, but I often go back to the same or similar places in dreams and they are distinctly dream places that seem real until I awaken. I try to control my dreams as much as I can so I rarely have bad or scary dreams and if I do they are more like a movie in which I control the story during the dream or resolve the plot upon awakening. I wish there was such a thing as a vivid dream recorder.

  6. Thanks for visiting my blog! I used to have a recurring dream about a bear trying to break into my house and kill me. I still have them when I'm stressed. I hate those dreams.

I really wish I could dream YA every night. Or historical fiction set in ancient Egypt. I've only managed two historical fiction dreams- one in Egypt and one in China. They were awesome!

  7. I love reading about everyone else's dreams! I have two recurring dreams. When I was younger, I dreamed about missing the bus. Now I dream about being in college and all my friends have graduated and I'm left there by myself. You guessed it - that really did happen. Good motivation to graduate in four years! And I'm Team Edward - definitely.

  8. My dream last night was about work. UGH. Is it not enough to spend 8 hours a day there?

I want more dreams with cute boys! : )

    Happy Wednesday!

  9. I have scary dreams, too. Someone's usually chasing me. In color. I've never dreamed in black and white.

  10. At an early age I was terrified by the cartoon Big Bad Wolf, from The Three Little Pigs. He'd steal me from my room and also steal my voice. My favorite dreams are the ones when deceased loved ones are in them. I mainly have big time nightmares, as my wife is constantly having to wake me up from either moaning or screaming in my sleep. I love deams though. I learned a trick from the "The Liars Club" (awesome by the way) that if you drink a few glasses of water, right before you go to bed, you have incredibly vivid dreams during there first few hours of sleep. Seems to work for me at least.

  11. I have wild, crazy, weird dreams--no surprise to me. But two elements that pop up regularly are 1) my teeth are falling out and 2) I'm running from someone and when I close the door on them, the door is not big enough to cover the doorway.

  12. I don't dream that often. Sometimes I'll be really close to waking up and I'll remember something. It's always YA, and usually romantic. What can I say? It's what I think about at night before going to bed -- my stories!

  13. I always dream in color. I have a lot of "teacher" dreams and I have an unusual number of nightmares. Maybe I should write horror instead of PB's and chapters. LOL!

  14. Lee-I think I read one of your posts about dreams a few months ago. My husband tells me that I should be able to control my dreams...if something scary is happening I should be able to "self talk" myself out of the situation by telling myself it's just a dream. I haven't had any success doing it though.

  15. Stephanie--Thanks for checking me out too. My scary dreams are when I'm under stress too.

  16. Susan--Is that why you walk the kids to the bus stop each morning? Scared they'll miss the bus...

  17. Kimberly--I'm sorry. I still have teaching dreams. (I taught for 17 years.) My husband says that he can tell when I have one because I'm always asking questions and telling people to get in line or to sit down. Thanks for stopping by. :)

  18. Hardygirl--Do you ever get up and write about your dream? I had one when I had braces (age 30) and was pregnant. In my dream my dentist pulled out all of my teeth. I woke up really upset. It was really weird...I wrote it down. I've never reread it...it was SCARY!

  19. Sean--I'd like to have dreams of loved ones that have passed. It seems like it would be a very comforting thing. I drink tons of water...even during the night...maybe that's why my dreams are so vivid.

  20. Amy--I've heard that the teeth falling out dream has something to do with lack of a certain nutrient....I can't remember what it is.

  21. Elana--My husband rarely dreams, which sounds odd to someone who dreams vividly almost every night. It sounds like you might be getting some extra hours in on your books when you are asleep. :)

  22. Shannon--Ditto on the teacher dreams and I "retired" four years ago. :)

Have you tried writing horror stories? I started one...got all freaked out and haven't touched it since.

  23. Sharon - that's part of it, though mostly I just like visiting with my neighbor every morning. :)

  24. Unfortunately I have apocalyptic nightmares during sleep! But I wish I dreamed of cute celebs and romance!

  25. Daisy--Congratulations on your upcoming book. You have a great website!

Do your dreams ever lead to manuscript ideas?

I wish I dreamed of the young man who taught my spinning class yesterday. (hot)
